Canon Selphy CP1300 Driver Download– The Canon SELPHY CP1300 is the latest compact photo printer from Canon, the successor to the SELPHY CP1200. It is capable of producing postcard-sized prints (6×4 inches). Like the CP1200, it’s wireless, meaning you can print from a device connected either to your home network or to a printer directly. This includes your computer, cell phone, and camera.
The box comes with a power supply cord, but you can purchase the battery separately to use it portable without being near a PowerPoint.
The Canon SELPHY CP1300 is currently selling for around £127 / $130. A paper and ink package for the printer costs around £27 for 108 prints.
Ease of use
Setting up and using the Canon SELPHY CP1300 printer is very easy, and you can be up and running very quickly.
You can load the ink cassette on the side of the printer, behind the door that hides it. It’s a case of sliding it inward, facing in the right direction – which should be pretty self-explanatory as it won’t fit in if it’s facing the wrong way.
You will find space for a paper cassette on the front of the printer. It’s a little more complicated than the ink cassette, but it’s pretty easy once you get it. Two covers need to be opened, and paper is placed inside. It can only hold 18 sheets at a time – which is easily how many are found in the individual packs provided in the 108 sheet pack we used. The glossy side of the paper should be loaded face up – when you are done, close the inner cover, but open the outer cover – this will allow you to insert the cassette into the appropriate slot on the front of the printer.
If you use the included power cord, you plug it into the back of the camera. Alternatively, install the battery – these are available to purchase separately, and as such, we do not provide these for testing. Once plugged in, hold down the power button on the printer’s top.
One of the improvements over the CP1200 is the size of the LCD screen on the top of the printer, which can be tilted forward to help you see it better. Now it’s 3.2 inches – compared to 2.7 inches. Unfortunately, it does still not touch-sensitive, so you have to use the buttons on the printer to move around the various menu options.
There are a few different options when it comes to printing from the Canon SELPHY CP1300. There’s an SD card slot on the front of the printer or a USB port on the side, where you can print directly. This is great if you want a quick print from your camera.
Once you insert the SD card, you will see the card’s image displayed on the screen. You can use the directional buttons to scroll through the various images on the card, choose which to print, and change any settings you want.
Or, you can set it up as a wireless printer. Perhaps the best option is to set it up to connect to your home Wi-Fi network, which means you can print it from a device connected to the same Wi-Fi network, such as your computer, phone, or indeed your camera. To set it up this way, you need to go to the Wi-Fi settings area, which is found under the Menu button. You’ll be directed through the steps you need to follow to set it up, which are pretty self-explanatory and straightforward.
You can connect directly to the Canon SELPHY CP1300 to print that way if you want. This is useful if you don’t have access to a Wi-Fi router, or for example, if you’re using it while shooting and want to print something from another device, you don’t need a router or other equipment to use it. The CP1300 is compatible with Apple AirPrint, so if you have an iPhone, you can send images very easily to print on the CP1300.
Canon says that postcard prints take about 43 seconds to print. Our testing found that the total from pressing the print button on your phone or computer to the final drawing was only about a minute. This extra time may be due to the wireless connection taking a while to transfer data and paper handling. Printing directly from an SD card is faster – usually around 50 seconds (including paper handling).
As we mentioned in our CP1200 review, watching the printing process is quite interesting. The printing process involves applying colors in separate layers. The paper will be drawn into the printer, spit out after applying the first coat, and then pulled three times before finishing. You should make sure there is space behind the printer, as the printer moves back and forth from front to back several times. You’ll see a screen showing which layer is currently printing, and once it’s ready, the final image will be in the paper tray.
If you insert a memory card or USB stick, you can choose to print all the images at once, or you can choose to print more than one page – you can load up to 8 images on a single page, which can be fun for creating collage-type effects.
There are also four different prints available. You can print with or without a border, enable or disable image optimization, adjust brightness, and color, add skin smoothing, correct red-eye, add datestamps, file numbers, and soon. Other options are available, such as Auto Power Down, which is especially useful for using the printer on a battery.
A new feature for the CP1300 is “Shuffle Print.” This means that multiple mobile devices can connect to the printer at once to print onto a single sheet of paper – which is a fun way for families to print their photos.
We come with a combined ink and paper pack with 108 sheets inside. At the time of writing, it is available to purchase for £26.73 from Amazon. This makes it around 25p per print, not buying the printer itself.
As we noted earlier, the print itself will feature two strips on either side that can be folded and torn off. This ensures that the print is perfectly sideways, but if you fold the strip and leave it attached, you can use it as temporary support, meaning the photo will stand on a flat surface.
When the paper runs out, you will see that there is nothing left on the tape, but there will also be a warning message displayed on the screen. As for the ink cartridges, there’s no way to see when these will run out, but again, there will be a warning displayed to show you when they’re running out. It may be helpful to display on the screen the number of prints you have left on your current cassette.
Overall, the Canon CP1300 is a very easy-to-use device, allowing you to get started right away, with additional options available to explore as and when you need them.
